After learning about how amazing turmeric is, I started looking into turmeric recipes to incorporate the spice into my cooking.
I first started researching turmeric a few years back when I was trying to find more natural ways to deal with my scoliosis and the pain that comes with it. Reading about the root, I was blown away by all the health benefits attributed to it — anti-inflammation, treatment of IBS, anti-oxidant increase, and more. Here’s a list of proven health benefits of turmeric.
Taking a pill form of turmeric is the most efficient way to best gain any positive effects from the Indian spice. (Be sure to follow the instructions in the article I linked above and find supplements that include black pepper.) However, fresh turmeric is wonderful to use in cooking, too! It has a mild flavor commonly compared to ginger and its warm, golden color brightens up dishes in a very easy way.
I like to add turmeric to my diet anyway that I can — I figure every little bit helps! — and I’ve found a ton of great turmeric recipes using the root. Here are some of the ones I have bookmarked to try as soon as possible.
Turmeric Roasted Cauliflower Recipe
A simple and delicious side dish idea! I made roasted cauliflower a lot this fall, but only used salt, pepper, garlic, and olive oil. This calls for just a bit more — turmeric and cumin. It looks amazing.
Golden Chicken Recipe
This golden chicken recipe includes a honey dijon marinade and looks like it would be both a great weeknight meal and perfect to make a big batch for meal prepping lunches.
Warm Turmeric Cinnamon Milk Recipe
This tea is full of the YUMMIEST spices (cardamom!!) and is supposed to help you sleep.
Roasted Turmeric Potatoes Recipe
Another simple weeknight side — after discovering oven roasting, I did it almost nightly. It’s a bit too hot now to have the oven going for that long, but in the dead of Minnesota winter, it was heaven.
Coconut Turmeric Basmati Rice Recipe
Basil! Coconut! Turmeric! Basmati! Can you just imagine how delicious your kitchen would smell with this simmering on the stove?
Lemon Turmeric Energy Balls Recipe
Lemony and coconutty — these little protein bites look so yummy. I’m a sucker for the rolled up breakfast balls, usually made with oatmeal, so another variation on making some is a-ok in my cookbook.
Turmeric Ginger Lemonade with Mint Recipe
Refreshing! I like that the post itself describes the drink as zingy.
Turmeric Roasted Chickpeas Recipe
More roasting! I love roasting!! The local restaurant Hot Indian opened up at the Mall of America recently, and they have some delicious roasted chickpeas with lime and other spices, and I just knew I could make them on my own!
Turmeric Breakfast Muffins Recipe
Ahh, the first true breakfast entry in my turmeric recipes list. These look absolutely incredible and the ingredient list is wild: chia, banana, homemade granola, cardamom, oats, blueberries… I want to try these right now.
Healing Turmeric Gummies Recipe
These little gummies are not meant to be a dessert, but as a healing food instead. The blog post talks about the writers’ troubles with their back, how they found turmeric recipes to help control the pain, and how these gummies are made. She eats up to 4 a day in place of over the counter painkillers.
Creamy Turmeric Salad Dressing Recipe
How creamy does this look?! This salad dressing includes tahini, lemon, ginger, and honey. And the recipe boasts that it only takes two minutes. Perfect.
One Tray Chicken with Turmeric Recipe
This recipe is literally all in one pan – the onions, cauliflower, tomatoes and chicken all in one. What’s better than that? Plus, it has rosemary, so I’m sold.
Morning Detox Turmeric Tea Recipe
Something that I always want to do, but never get in the habit of is to have some hot lemon water with cayenne first thing in the AM. Something about waking up at 5 a.m. for work makes me reach for some iced espresso instead… but, this version – which has turmeric and ginger in it – seems pretty yummy.
Turmeric Chickpea Burgers Recipe
A great alternative for hamburgers if you’re trying to cut meat from your diet, but also a fun add-on protein to your salads. Plus, this recipe comes with a garlicky avocado cream, too, which is a delicious bonus.
Turmeric Iced Coffee Recipe
And lastly, my favorite thing ever — iced coffee. This recipe for golden milk meets coffee includes maple syrup, chia seeds, and vanilla extract. A sweet treat!
Let me know in the comments if there are any other ways that you incorporate turmeric curcumin into your daily diet! I want to know your experiences with the spice and if you’ve seen any benefit while using the supplement or the fresh version of the root.
15 Anti-Inflammatory Turmeric Recipes
These recipes all look amazing! I’ve been meaning to switch up my usual chicken recipes, and the golden chicken looks like a perfect way to do so.
Right?! It looks so easy but so yummy.
