When I was walking back from the food court on my lunch break today, I saw a little boy around four or five, completely sandwiched in half in a perfect forward fold. He stood up and looked at his friend, a little girl the same age, and she shrugged and went for it. She raised her hands above her head, rounded out her back and pinned her shoulders up against her ears, and leaned forward an inch or two. She stood back up and looked at him, and they both shrugged together. I am that girl.
30 Day Yoga Challenge: Day Six
Mondays are hard for everyone and trying to get anything done after the work day is just as tricky. Very Garfield of me, I know, but this one was especially tough to get motivated since it was ANOTHER gloomy rainy day. All I wanted to do after I was done at the mall and done with grocery shopping was to scarf some leftover Pizza Luce and lay on the couch watching E3 coverage. So, maybe I did eat some pizza, but I also got my butt on the mat for a short yoga routine. 15 minutes, yeah, but that’s better than zero minutes!!
This video for service industry workers is a nice, gentle, after work stretch. For someone who is running around on her feet all day, I definitely was happy to try this. I woke up with a pretty awful headache, but this time, the pain was coming from the left side of my neck, when 99% of the time it’s on the right. My friend at work said maybe that’s a good sign, and as my muscles are getting used to the stretching and attention, the other side is over compensating and in time they’ll get used to it, too. Maybe true! Maybe not! But I powered through, took it easy on my sore neck, and laid on the ground for a good 5ish minute savasana after the video ended.
- Not to get too gross, but if you do yoga, you won’t care – the seated twists made me burp A LOT today. Why?! I don’t know. Is it because I ate two slices of pizza before? MAYBE?!
- I wanted to do yoga downstairs, because I could have our window open to listen to the rain, but for some reason a man was mowing the lawn… in the rain. Window shut.
- I don’t know how to describe this one fully, but — as I continue on this journey to help manage my scoliosis symptoms, I really want to work feeling more spatially even. I lay on my back on the mat and I feel off center. I close my eyes while I’m standing, I feel like I’m going to tip over. Something just feels OFF a lot of the time, probably because my body IS uneven. I want to reduce that feeling.
Namaste and see you tomorrow!
